On October 28th, 2023, AES - Angola Environmental Serviços (AES) organised its 3rd Annual HSE Forum, held at Hotel Diamante in Luanda. The event was attended by several subcontractors, including SONILS - Sonangol Integrated Logistics Services, Base Logística Kwanda, Alonssus, as well as partners and government entities such as MAPETSS, ANR, INAD, MINAMB and AREA.

The opening session was presided over by the General Director of AES - Angola Environmental Serviços, Mr. Matuzalem Sukete. The objective of the forum was to promote workplace safety among contractors and partners, as well as to encourage the sharing of best practices aimed at strengthening and improving management systems.

Several topics were discussed and presented. In the first panel, the QHSE Director of AES, Mr. Arnab Das, addressed the topic “AES Expectations for Contractors.” Mr. Pioneiro Kalongo, Head of the DSSQA Department at SONILS - Sonangol Integrated Logistics Services, spoke about subcontractor risk management. Ms. Carla Marques Guerreiro, District QHSE & TQR Manager for Angola and Central Africa at Bureau Veritas, presented on organisational emergencies and self-protection measures.

The second panel began with a discussion on stress in the workplace and at home, followed by a presentation on protection and exposure to radioactive materials, both in daily life and in professional contexts. The Deputy Director of QHSE at AES - Angola Environmental Serviços, Ms. Cristina da Costa, spoke about workplace stress. Mr. Narciso Cláudio Sambembe, Physicist and Specialist in Radiological Protection and Safety of Radioactive Sources at AREA, presented on radiological protection and HSE. Mr. Alípio Manuel, Radiation Protection Advisor and Quality Control Director, addressed the topic of NORM waste management.

On behalf of AES, Mr. Matuzalem Sukete expressed his gratitude to all attendees of the forum, especially the speakers who made themselves available to share their knowledge and address relevant topics that will contribute to the continuous improvement of AES’s management system, as well as those of its contractors and partners. He also highlighted that all participants undoubtedly gained valuable knowledge. The General Director expressed his expectation that all attendees would leave the forum having learned something new.
