High Temperature Incineration Unit (HTIU)
Since 2005, AES has successfully operated a High Temperature Incineration Unit (HTIU), using technology developed and provided by the Danish State. This unit was designed to ensure the safe and effective treatment of solid and liquid hazardous waste from various industrial operations.
The AES incinerator is capable of processing a wide range of hazardous waste, including:
- Used oil
- Organic solvents
- Paint sludge and lacquers
- Plastics and synthetic materials
- Various chemical products
This waste is destroyed in a controlled manner, significantly reducing the environmental risks associated with inadequate storage or disposal.
The HTIU is composed of multiple integrated systems that enable continuous and safe operation while ensuring full environmental protection, in compliance with EU Directive 2000/76/EC governing the incineration of hazardous waste, namely:
Thermal destruction occurs in two stages:
- Rotary kiln - The waste is subjected to an operating temperature of 1,100°C, ensuring the thermal disintegration of organic matter.
- 2. Secondary combustion chamber - Also maintains 1,100°C, ensuring the complete destruction of the remaining organic components.
After the process, the final solid waste (ash and slag) is collected and subsequently sent to a certified landfill operated by AES itself, ensuring full environmental compliance.
